The California Medical Association Board of Trustees, via its Committee on Nominations, is seeking recommendations for physicians who are interested in and willing to serve on its standing Councils and Subcommittees for 2021-2022. All current appointments expire at the conclusion of the California Medical Association House of Delegates in October 2021. New appointments will begin their terms at that time, with the new terms expiring at the conclusion of the 2022 House of Delegates. Councils and committees meet as needed, with up to four meetings per year via teleconference and potentially one in-person meeting. Please note that current members who are eligible for reappointment must submit an application for the 2021-2022 term. Even if you previously submitted an application and there are no changes, you must complete the new online form. The new form includes optional information regarding diversity and demographics. Due to this requested personal demographic information, applicants are encouraged to fill out their own forms; however, applications submitted by a third party are also acceptable. In developing nominations, CMA urges special consideration for recruiting the talent and experience of your younger colleagues, as well as ethnic and women physicians, who will bring new perspectives to the Association’s policy-developing committees. Please submit applications through the form on the California Medical Association website. The deadline for submission is 11:59 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2021. Mentoring Can Be a Game Changer As healthcare becomes more complex and demands on physicians increase, it is essential to find ways to mentor a young physician. Likewise, if you are a young physician, there should be opportunities for being mentored, guided, inspired and supported. We have many seasoned physicians who possess an abundance of wisdom as many young physicians continue navigating the profession, oftentimes on their own. At the same time, as our Well Being Index kicks off next week, the chance to help a young physician helps both mentee and mentor. It gives physicians a chance to help, make a difference and listen. If you are interested in either being a LACMA Mentor or Mentee, email me: gustavo@lacmanet.org and let’s get started.
