Dr. Sion Roy, a Harbor-UCLA Medical Center cardiologist, will become the Los Angeles County Medical Association's (LACMA) youngest president in the organization's 148-year history at the Annual Installation of President and Officers on June 21st, 2019. Dr. Roy is also a Trustee to the California Medical Association and was elected to the Santa Monica College Board of Trustees on November 6, 2018 to serve a 4-year term. Dr. Roy will be the first county-employed physician and elected official to lead LACMA.

Dr. Roy joined LACMA in 2011 while completing his fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and has had an interest in policy and advocacy since a young age, realizing that as a physician, "It's important to shape policy in our overly complex system because that makes a difference in the lives of patients. It's as important as the day to day contact," he said.

As the incoming president of the largest medical association in the state, representing one of the most diversely populated counties in the country, Dr. Roy will focus his one-year term on enhancing LACMA's role in the development of healthcare policies that increase access to quality healthcare for all patients.

"With Governor Newsom's ambitious healthcare agenda and the appointment of California's first-ever surgeon-general, LACMA and its physician members will be at the forefront of creating solutions for the most critical issues affecting healthcare and healthcare delivery in our county. We are committed to achieving universal access to quality healthcare for all the people of LA County and for all Californians. To attain this goal, physicians must lead to create positive change. LACMA physicians are committed to doing this." Dr. Roy said.

Dr. Roy is a cardiologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harbor UCLA. Additionally, he serves as the Director of the Inpatient Cardiac CT program and Associate Cardiology Fellowship Program Director. In addition to being a trustee at Santa Monica College, where he previously served as adjunct professor teaching health policy, Dr. Roy is also an elected delegate and serves on the finance committee for the California Democratic Party.

LACMA is a professional association representing over 6,000 LA county physicians from every medical specialty and practice. Since 1871, LACMA has been at the forefront of the science, business and politics of medicine, ensuring that its members are represented in the areas of public policy, government relations, innovation and healthcare research and delivery.
