Monday Rx: Election Transition, Rapid Response 3.0 and COVID-19 Updates November 9, 2020 Congress, COVID-19, Election, Joe Biden, LA County, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Works, Membership Renewal, PPE, Public Health, Rapid Response 3.0, Vaccination 1244 Transition Now that President-Elect Joe Biden has been declared the winner of the election, he is making the transition from campaigning on healthcare issues to governing. It remains unclear how much Biden will be able to accomplish in Congress, as control of the Senate will come down to two runoff elections in Georgia that will be held in January. Still, the likely change in executive branch will have big implications for the healthcare industry. The COVID-19 pandemic and the Supreme Court's eventual ruling on the Affordable Care Act will also be major factors. Experts said Biden would tackle the virus straight away with a renewed emphasis on public health measures aimed at trying to stop its spread. That said, the president elect today announced the COVID-19 advisory team. The group will be led by three physicians: Vivek Murthy, MD, David A. Kessler, MD, and Marcella Nunez-Smith, MD. Vaccine News Pfizer and BioNTech said their COVID-19 vaccine achieved "more than 90%" efficacy in an interim analysis, after 94 infections were recorded -- but with few other details. COVID-19 Cases The U.S. is the first country to pass 10 million cases for COVID-19 cases with 237,584 dead. Daily averages over the past week reached 109,000 new cases and 940 deaths and for Los Angeles County, 322,207 cases, 2,238 in last 24 hours, more than 7,000 deaths and 2 in last 24 hours reported.
