I wanted to thank those members who attended the event held February 24-25, including nine board members who were event co-chairs, Dr. Jeffery Lee and Dr. Hector Flores, LACMA president Dr. Omer Deen, LACMA president-elect Dr. Jerry Abraham and fellow board members Dr. Heather Silverman, Dr. Troy Elander, Dr. Stephanie Booth, Dr. Cristian Rico, and Dr. Karen Miotto. LACMA Joins Allied Pacific IPA and Garfield Medical Center to Address Mass Casualty Scenarios This week, LACMA will participate in two separate press conferences. The first will announce our partnership with Allied Pacific IPA (APIPA) and Garfield Medical Center (GMC) to support the Stop the Bleed Campaign. Following the horrific tragedies in Monterey Park, the urgent need to collaborate on ways to control bleeding in any emergency, including applying direct pressure, packing the wound with bleeding control (hemostatic) gauze, and applying a tourniquet. However, only recently have tourniquets been re-embraced for their life-saving potential. The result is the STOP THE BLEED® campaign; the result of a collaborative effort led by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) to bring knowledge of bleeding control to the public. The ACS COT, and specifically the EMS subcommittee with its many collaborative relationships, provided the perfect environment for this program to grow into the critical success that it is today. Stop The Bleed Specifically, LACMA will match the $5,000 contributions of APIPA and GMC to provide equipment, training, and certification for people who are interested in learning this life-saving skill. The American College of Surgeons STOP THE BLEED® campaign has trained over 1 million people, including students, teachers, and community groups. The $15,000 will financially support additional training, resources, and education. Learn More Tomelloso Family Support The second major event this week will feature LACMA’s donation of $10,000 to the Tomelloso family through our partnership with the Los Angeles Police Department. Mike and Laura Tomelloso are both in law enforcement and both have stage 4 cancers. In addition, they have two young sons, one of whom is special needs. The LACMA board of directors approved the donation and it is our hope the funds will help the Tomelloso family deal with medical bills and other expenses. The Blue Ribbon Trust Fund for the Tomellosos has been established by the Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union. Anyone interested in making an online donation can visit here and/or fill out a form here. AltaMed Health Services Conference This Saturday, LACMA will participate in the AltaMed Health Services Provider Quality Conference at the Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach. We are honored to share LACMA resources, benefits, and programs to help AltaMed Health Services and the over 200 LACMA members sponsored by AMHS! PPE Supplies for Practices in Need LACMA still has a supply of PPE if you are a practice in need of additional masks, gowns, and goggles. Please contact Sheila Hoyer at sheila@lacmanet.org to coordinate pick-up from our offices Downtown. Apply Your Voice with #CMAVoices!
