Celebrating The Life of Dr. Frank Meza

This past Saturday, I was honored to attend a service in tribute to Dr. Frank Meza, who passed away on July 4th unexpectedly. One could see, feel, and hear the impact Dr. Meza had on so many lives over four decades of practicing medicine. The legacy he left has been beyond comprehension: from colleagues to patients, students and friends representing a diversity of organizations: Kaiser Permanente, Altamed, Loyola High School, Cathedral High School, and more.

His wife, Tina, shared a clear message, that cyberbullying is real and impacts adults as much as young people. Physicians, in particular, face it with empowered patients or anonymous threats. The media, with limited resources, merely reprints, reposts unverified reports which could shatter physician reputations in an instant.

To the Meza family, the Altamed and Kaiser Permanente organizations, LACMA shares its condolences, prayers and will do whatever it takes to address the issues of cyberbullying and threats against physicians.

Dr. Meza created programs and organizations to help eradicate health discrepancies for various racial/ethnic and language groups in California. He was an advocate for high-quality care throughout all communities and heavily involved with shifting Kaiser Permanente's perspective of culturally competent care.

Through your donation to the AltaMed Foundation, they can continue the work he began. Funds will be used to support the education and training of Latino students with a passion for delivering health care in their communities. Efforts will also be made to pass legislation that provides protection to individuals who experience online aggression.
